Exploring individual differences in AI use among students

The purpose of this research by teacher-researcher José Cotilla Conceição is to explore individual differences in students’ AI use for learning, with a specific focus on motivations, goals, and self-perceived skill. Rather than assuming a uniform pattern of adoption, we examine how students position themselves along these dimensions and how distinct patterns of AI use emerge across the cohort. After this initial exploratory step, the findings will be used to inform a follow-up study aimed at designing targeted educational support interventions that help students use AI more effectively and responsibly in their learning. By grounding future interventions in empirically observed student patterns, the study seeks to improve educational practice and student support related to AI usage.
